SORORITY HISTORY

Sorority History

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded 110 years ago on January 13, 1913, by 22 young women studying at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Our founders sought to create an organization rooted in sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action.

Today, we are a sisterhood of over 350,000 initiated women and over 1,000 chapters located worldwide. Under the auspices of our International President, Elsie Cook-Holmes, we strive to uphold the theme of our biennium, Forward With Fortitude: Engaging Our Sisterhood, Empowering Our Communities, Elevating Our Impact.
